Despite predictions of an apocalyptic, impending world doom, some people do look at 2012 favorably, namely the Chinese. This year marks the Year of the Dragon and a fun little fact is that many couples are actually looking to conceive children in this year to acquire some of that robust good fortune, which the dragon has an abundance of. The Chinese look at the mythical creature with a much more esoteric symbolism, reverence, and magic, contrasting the typical Western view.

Although, Hennessy Privilège launched their limited edition NyX bottle for the holidays, in December 2011, the festive mystique certainly ties into the Asian aesthetic. NyX takes its name after the goddess of the evening, symbolizing boldness, luxury and embodies the spirit of legends. Its silver bottle signifies the reflection of the moon and glows under black light.

On Monday, January 23rd, Hennessy had Origami designer, Kevin ¡ÈSAER¡É Leong host a Chinese New Year banquet at New York's illustrious, Buddakan. The evening was replete with an infinite amount of Hennessy's signature "A Privileged New Year" cocktails, dim sum, and 10-course meal... well maybe it was 4, but honestly it felt like 10 cause I went home belt-less. In addition, a few celebrities came through, such as Andrew Harrell, Jim Jones and Russell Simmons, who offered his blessings by balancing a bottle on his cranium. To make the celebration 110% official was the full-on dragon dance and "hong bao" or red envelopes, each filled with eight "lucky" Washingtons. Now had fireworks been thrown into the mix, I would've sworn I was in the true New York City of yesteryear.

In Vitali's recent solo exhibition, at the agnes b Galerie Boutique in Soho, large scale photographs depict scenes from Italy, Turkey and Germany spanning from 2004 to 2011. While one definitely senses Vitali's fascination with the theme of Arcadian Remains, apparent in images of the iconic ruins such as the Ephesus Library and the Hierapolis Theatre, the frailty of the human species is also captured from quite an objective angle. Often times, we humans tend to forget that we are simply pieces in a more monumental puzzle. Vitali takes a vantage point similar to that of a crow's nest to capture people interacting with their environments, thus presenting the human race in a very impartial manner while simultaneously revealing a sort of innocence in the multitudes.

The exhibit is on view from December 10, 2011 - January 21, 2012 at:

The French collective, Yelle, speak a universal language of oneness in their sounds. Whether or not you can speak the language of love, the vibrant energy of their songs move you to dance and hug the person next to you. Earlier this December, they came through New York's Webster Hall to a sold out audience and showcased their recent effort, Safari Disco Club, as well as their other classic numbers from over the years. Front woman, Yelle's numerous outfit changes all bore some sort of wild life reference with either an animal print or camouflage, probably to signify the omnipresent primal feelings of love and desire for an all around good time, which all humans share. At several points in their spectacle, Yelle and her 2 counterparts, GrandMarnier and Tepr (who were both garbed in Safari outfits), do drum numbers, which overtake you and send you into absolute lunacy. Yelle are absolute proof that I should have stuck with French as my second language in high school.
